To send or not to send save the dates? That is definitely one big wedding question! Most weddings normally require an invitation - whether it’s a plane in the sky, a quick text and everything in between - but save the date cards are a bit more ambiguous.

Do people really need a save the date card? How do they perform in the budget lists alongside other wedding items? Will people get booked up and unable to attend your wedding if you don’t send one?

We’ve weighed up the pros and cons, and think you should go for it, if -

  • You want to send them. Never underestimate really wanting something at your wedding, as the last thing you want is to have a big regret about about something that could have happened if possible.
  • You are having a wedding abroad. There are lots of things for the guests to sort out if you are having your wedding away from home - Cyprus, maybe?! - and so giving your guests a date earlier in advance would allow them to take advantage of cheaper fares, hotels etc
  • Your wedding falls in ‘peak’ dates. If you have chosen a date that falls in the school holidays, or around big calendar dates - like Valentine’s Day for example - then sending a save the date might give guests that little bit of extra time to organise everything their end and be able to attend.
  • You plan on having a quick engagement. For those of you who are looking at getting married in under the year period, there’s so much to sort out and you’ll have to get organised fast. Sending a save the date ensures that the maximum number of people will be able to make it and you only really need to know the date. Phew!

Let us know if you sent save the dates at your wedding - we’d love to hear!
