The hues of blue and purple intertwine together with such ease and elegance. They really are two beautiful colours together, especially when kept closer to the lighter shades. They are both popular wedding colours in their own right – lavender, the colour of the Mediterranean and the freshness of blue – and by combining them, you really do have a wedding colour palette hard to beat.

There is so much you can do with this theme and because the colours could easily become overpowering subtlety is the key. One of my favourite inspiration pieces for the blue and purple wedding palette is the wedding cake as pictured above. If someone said to you that they were having a blue and purple wedding cake then you would be a bit sceptical, wouldn’t you?! However, painted icing like this, only covering a third of the cake and also flanked with gold is just the perfect weighting.

My other favourite angle with these two colours is the flowers. Oh the flowers! Maybe it’s just me, but you don’t often see purple and blue blooms together and so they seem all the more special. The shades are so delicately matched whilst also not limiting you to certain flowers. This is why it’s a good idea to keep the colours light, as they’ll look so special together in the brides and bridesmaids’ bouquets.
