Eucalyptus, fern, privet stems… You wouldn’t necessarily think wedding at these, but more and more brides are opting for a completely nature-led wedding ‘theme’ for their big day. It’s not hard to see why; decorative foliage is anything but dull and seemingly lacking. In fact, it’s one of my favourite trends of 2016.
One of the most beautiful aspects of opting for all foliage at your wedding is the different hues. It’s easy to think that the colour would be too monotone for a wedding but it’s quite the opposite. Eucalyptus is almost grey in some lights and you can go as dark as emerald with some palm leaves and varieties of grasses.
Foliage is incredibly versatile in terms of décor. You can manipulate it any way you like; it looks equally as effective when simply lain on the wedding tables, in a very natural approach, as it does when creating large displays such as foliage arches and hand tie bouquets. Foliage works incredibly well for outfit accessorising too. For example, the bride could have a crown made of eucalyptus and fern and the men’s button holes could include a whole host of varieties, even mini succulents.
The cost of foliage is something else to consider when planning your wedding. Flowers are normally the cost that really hits couples hard; you just can’t believe the total sum when you get the email through! Certain foliage is still quite costly, especially if it is out of season or local to a particular country, but on the whole you would save an incredible amount by going down the foliage route.
