Everyone wants to look and feel fabulous on their wedding day but a hot destination wedding can bring up all sorts of challenges from tottering around in high heels on the sand to sweltering under all those layers of satin. Today we're looking at some alternative ideas to help you create the perfect cool beach style for your wedding.

We've already discussed some ways to keep cool on your wedding day in a hot country like Cyprus but what about your own outfit?

The Dress

You'll want to feel like a queen but getting sweaty under ruffles and satin is not a great look! Luckily sticking to a white or ivory dress will help reflect some of the heat but opting for lighter, floaty fabrics with less layers such as tulle or chiffon will help keep you cool. Think of delicate fabrics with empire, sheath, column or A line shapes rather than a fitted fishtail or mermaid dress or a heavily layered ballgown style. Or you could go for something completely different and choose a beautiful tea length dress! Tulle and chiffon dresses don't need to be boring either, you can jazz them up with some sparkle, lace or even flowers to add interest.

Hairstyles

A sunny destination wedding is the perfect opportunity to go for a relaxed look and you can use that to your advantage for your hairstyle on the day. Beach waves make for a lovely, romantic look which can either be left loose to blow in the breeze or could be delicately swept up to keep the hair off your face. Don't worry about stray hairs and using lots of hair spray either, this look is all about being natural and relaxed so you can enjoy yourself without worrying too much if your hair is out of place.

Shoes

In a hot country your feet naturally swell a little so high heels are going to get a bit uncomfortable by the end of the day! Pretty sandals will allow your feet to get some air if you choose flat or low heels, by the end of the night your feet will definitely thank you for it! If you're on the beach at any point, flip flops or even barefoot sandals are a great idea to help keep you cool and let you enjoy some sand between your toes! If you're worried about people seeing your feet though, fear not because with a long dress no one will know what you're wearing!

Makeup

Being caked in layers of makeup in a hot country can be problematic because it won't stay looking perfect for long. If you have a tan (natural or fake, doesn't matter!), you might not need to worry about any foundation and can just focus on a little eye makeup and lipstick to finish off for a pretty and natural look. If you still feel that you want to have your makeup done properly though, look into airbase makeup which is applied with an airbrush by a makeup artist – it will stay on for up to 24 hours with no touchups (apart from your lips) so is the perfect solution for brides who want their makeup to stay put all day in the heat.
